1. Donate unwanted linens such as towels and blankets to your local animal shelter. Most shelters are always in need of these items and the animals won't care if they are stained or ugly, they will just be happy to keep warm.
2. Find a quilter to create a memory quilt out of old baby clothes or even old T-shirts from your past vacations.
3. Never throw away clothing, donate it to a local thrift store. If the items are too stained or worn take them to be recycled. Many strip malls now have recycling bins for clothing and shoes.
Just a few ideas to get started, more to come!

Reusable cloth shopping bags are the best eco friendly solution. In addition to cutting down on waste these bags are easier to carry and hold a lot more than the disposable plastic alternative.

We generally think to carry our reusable bags with us into the grocery store but what if you are only getting one or two things say at the gas station. Just say no thank you when asked if a bag is needed to carry that gallon of milk, it has a handle after all. Ladies can use their purse to store that a candy bar or bag of chips.

The fewer plastic bags we use will lessen the number of bags sent to the landfill to pollute the earth for years to come. If you must use plastic bags it should be known that plastic bags are recyclable, most grocery stores have recycling bins specifically for plastic bags. Be sure to only place clean bags in these bins as excessively dirt bags cant be recycled. All in all its best not to use them at all and simply say "No Thank you".
www.heritagebotanicals.com

So many items end up in the garbage that could be recycled. Cardboard toilet paper roles, plastic bags and water bottles are some of the items that are ignored as recyclable and end up in the landfill. Cutting down on trash means cutting back on trash bags and therefore cutting back on money spent on trash bags. Adding these overlooked items to the recycling bin instead of the garbage means 3-6 fewer trash bags used a week on average. More recycling means less money spent on garbage bags, $45-$65 annually for an average family of four. Its not a tremendous amount but ask yourself, would you throw $65 in cash directly in the garbage once a year? Of course you wouldn't.
.
Recycling is easy! Aside from rinsing out cans or bottles, recycling doesn't require any more effort than taking out the garbage does. In most cities recycling service is curbside just like garbage collection and in rural areas the recycling stations are at the local dump. Recycling is a simple way to reduce your carbon footprint, become more green and save yourself some green as well!
www.heritagebotanicals.com
